Sometimes, things get stinky. That’s an unavoidable part of life. Aside from having good hygiene and a solid cleaning routine, there will be sometimes when you have an especially difficult time getting rid of certain smells. Here are some life hacks to get rid of odor in your home.

10. Put Baking Soda In A Slow Cooker
Anyone who has made something in a slow cooker already knows that your kitchen will smell like food by the time you get home. It can also be used to help make your house smell clean. Add some water, and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Let it cook throughout the day, and your house will smell fresh.

9. Use Teabags To Absorb Odor
Have some extra teabags lying around? They are actually great at absorbing excess odor. Put them inside of your shoes to help freshen them up. It should take a few hours to work to their full extent. Just remember to take them out before you slip in your feet!

8. An Air Purifier
Whether you have pets, or your space cannot seem to smell clean no matter how many times you clean it, you may want to consider buying an air purifier. These will filter out an excess dust, mold, dander, or pollen that is in the air.

7. Use Vinegar and Water to Eliminate Must and Mold
Bleach is notoriously good for removing mold. If you are afraid of using harsh chemicals, you can swap it out with a mix of vinegar and water. You can use this mixture to scrub mold off of the walls, or clean objects. This will remove mold from most things, even clothes in the laundry.

6. Create Your Own Plugin Refills
Buying the official Glade Plugin or Bath & Body Works capsules can be expensive. They do sell refills at Dollar Tree, but they may not come in the scents that your prefer. If you want to create your own refills, you can add a few drops of essential oil and water into an existing plugin bottle.

5. DIY Pet Odor Removal Spray
When you’re potty training a new pet, it’s normal for them to have accidents every so often. After you have already cleaned up your pet’s waste, you still may find that there is a lingering smell left over. Create a DIY spray made of two parts water, and one part mouth wash, preferably something strong, like Listerine. Another basic tip for caring for your pets is to give them a bath, or take them to the groomer. This will help them smell better in general.

4. Dryer Sheets
Dryer sheets are good for so much more than adding scent to laundry in the dryer. They can also be put inside of shoes to help eliminate odor. If you have any old photos or paperwork that smells like smoke, you can seal it in a ziplock bag with dryer sheets, and it will absorb the odor as well.

3. DIY Fabric Spray
A lot of people buy Febreze spray to help eliminate smells from fabrics. If you don’t have any on-hand, you can make your own with water, baking soda, and some essential oil. Add this mixture to an empty spray bottle, and you can get rid of odor very quickly.

2. DIY Air Freshener with Downy Unstoppables
If you already use Downy Unstoppables in your home for your laundry, you can reuse them to eliminate odors in a few ways. You suck up a few of the balls in a vacuum to eliminate the smell, or create small fabric bags full to be hidden under furniture. 1. Believe it or not, dusting helps get rid of odor
Sometimes, dust can cause a musty scent, or make the air smell stale. If you haven’t dusted in a long time, you should go ahead and dust the furniture and floors. If you want to keep up with it, be sure to dust at least once every two weeks.
