Before she was famous as the host of Fixer Upper, Joanna Gaines started her first home decor boutique called “Magnolia“. Now, Chip and Joanna Gaines have both purchased a huge property for their brand called Magnolia Market in The Silos. Instead of just being a shop, this is an all-inclusive experience of outdoor shopping, eating, and entertainment in Waco, Texas. It has been designed in a way that embraces the generally warm Texas weather, so you can go shopping out in the open air.
Many of you have seen their original HGTV series called “Fixer Upper”, where Chip and Joanna rehab old houses. The Silos is their biggest project, by far. Most designers would never even dream of something so ambitious. Lucky for us, this entire journey was documented, and pieced together in a brand new Magnolia Network series called “Breaking New Ground: Expanding the Silos”. Watch episode one here on Discovery Plus.
Episode One: “Expanding the Silos” Shows the making of Magnolia Market at the Silos
In the first episode, we start at the moment Chip and Joanna purchased the property in 2014. As time goes on, they choose to expand the property by adding a church, coffee shop, and so much more. Just like any construction project, they experience a few bumps along the way. But nothing can stop this power couple from getting the job done.

Part of the property was the famous Katy Park Baseball Field, where the likes of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig once played. It was important to Chip and Joanna to pay homage to that in some way. While the property was not big enough to house an entire new baseball field, they were still able to create a wiffle ball field. They have also hosted a marathon, to raise money for cancer. This is documented in their series called The Courage to Run With Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald.
This show is fascinating, whether you’ve visited the property or not. If you love Fixer Upper, you will absolutely love this. And, for fans of baby Crew, don’t worry- He’s there too!
If you plan to take a summer vacation to visit the Magnolia Market at the Silos, consider renting one of Chip and Joanna’s properties on AirBnB.
