In 2020, Cottagecore took the Internet by storm on TikTok and Instagram. In case you didn’t know, Cottagecore is an aesthetic inspired by simple country living. Think of a time before the Internet or TV where you could live on a self-sustaining farm out in the middle of nowhere, without a care in the world. With all of the stress we are experiencing in modern-day life, it’s really no surprise why Cottagecore has become so popular. Here are a few tips on decorating your home in this aesthetic.
Buy Vintage China, Clothes, and Decor
If you want to capture the feeling of living in a cottage 100 years ago, it would only make sense to buy vintage home decor. Browse your local thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales to find objects that fit the aesthetic. Or, better yet- Ask your grandparents if they would be willing to pass down a set of antique porcelain, or the clothes they wore when they were young. This can be a great way to honor your family history without spending a lot of money.
Start Baking and Cooking From Scratch
One of the most popular content labeled #Cottagecore on Tiktok are people baking from scratch. A lot of people love to watch others cook, because it feels soothing to them. Cooking and baking can also be a huge release of stress when you do it yourself. For me, it’s like a form of meditation. I can focus all of my thoughts and energy on the task at hand, instead of worrying about work or my personal problems. Because of this, I love to cook, and I actually see it as taking a break, rather than a chore. Even if you believe that cooking looks challenging, I promise that with a bit of time and practice, you can make it happen.
Buy or Pick Fresh Flowers For Your Table
One of the best ways to freshen up your home is to have fresh flowers on your table. In the spring and summer, it should be easy to find and pick wildflowers in your own backyard. If not, consider purchasing a bag of wildflower seeds. Sprinkle these on a patch of land, and voila! They will grow into flowers for you to pick. And if picking flowers for free truly isn’t an option for you, don’t hesitate to spend the $5 to $10 at the grocery store to buy a bouquet for yourself. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion.
If You Want Cottagecore Aesthetic, Shop For Farmhouse Style Decor
When you walk into most home decor stores like Home Goods or At Home, you’re not going to find a “cottagecore” section. But you are pretty much guaranteed to find a Farmhouse or Country Living section. A lot of the decor you can find in this area of a store will fit perfectly with the cottagecore vibe you’re trying to achieve.
